In Dec. of 2008, Greg Kolodziejzyk is planning on pedaling his human powered boat "WiTHiN" 3000 miles across the Atlantic ocean. He is geared up with Memory-Map navigation software, complete with an AIS receiver to help him keep clear of shipping. See http://www.pedaltheocean.com.

User Dennis Wright, from Batesville AR, sent us these pictures from his 2,500-mile trip down the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, which follows the backbone of the continent from Canada to Mexico. This trail is the longest off-road bike route in the world, and is renowned for its hash terrain and inclement weather. Dennis planned his route in detail on his PC, and used a Pocket PC for navigation on the trail. The Pocket PC was mounted in an OtterBox on the handlebar of the bike, and was powered from the bike's 12V battery.
"While riding my motor cycle down The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, it was a great comfort to see that the blinking red circle was still on the blue route I had loaded from the comfort of my desk computer. No trying to keep maps open and dry from the wind and rain, just a quick check of the computer screen and I kept riding."
As a practice for the Great Divide trip, Dennis rode across Colorado on the Trans-America trail, and next year is planning a trip in Mexico.
